POND CHECK INFORMATION

So you won't have to worry...

Coliform bacteria.  They’re invisible. Contamination of surface water by E. coli and other bacteria poses a hazard to swimmers and to pets that drink the water. Contamination by fecal bacteria also indicates the potential for contamination by even more dangerous pathogens from animal digestive systems, including bacteria, protozoans (such as Giardia or Cryptosporidium) or viruses.

Contaminated waters can be as clear as the water from your tap.  A laboratory test is necessary to determine whether dangerous numbers of bacteria are present.  Is your pond safe?

There are many possible sources of bacteria that contaminate surface water.  Leaking septic systems can result in contamination with bacterial from human digestive systems.  Waterfowl are another common source of contamination.  Even wildlife, such as raccoons, can sometimes be an important source.

PondCheckTM is an easy-to-use kit that tests your pond for fecal indicator bacteria and evaluates several other critical aspects of your pond’s health (see below).  Just use the self-filling testers to determine the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water, then collect a water sample and ship it to us. The kit contains everything you need, including complete instructions.  We’ll send you a report in about a week.

PondCheckTM Standard Parameters

·   Fecal indicator bacteria (E. Coli)

·   Dissolved oxygen

·   Conductivity

·   Total dissolved solids

·   pH

·   Alkalinity

Other parameters are available as options.

How Often Do I Need To Check My Pond?

For a small pond (less than 2 acres) with no history of problems, one PondCheck a year is adequate. If you have a larger pond or one with a history of contamination, consult your WQ-PRO dealer for a recommendation.

What Should I Do If Significant Contamination Is Detected?

If contamination is detected, contact your WQ-PRO dealer for assistance in developing a strategy to identify and eliminate sources of bacteria.
